Library Closed This Summer
Our library is on the move again and will be unavailable for several months from the end of March. If you want to visit the library before it closes, please make an appointment as soon as possible.
Visitors are welcome to examine our collection by arrangement with the Hon. Librarian, but to borrow items you must be a member of the Society and have obtained a library card from the University by visiting the library and producing suitable ID together with payment of £5.
Appointmentscan be made to visit on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays between 10am and 6pm. Most books may be borrowed by members for up to two months. No member may have more than five items out on loan at the same time. Members of the Society's Library also become members of the University Library. We have recently agreed reciprocal borrowing rights with the university, allowing our members to borrow books from any of their libraries. See the University's website for more details. The Library card issued to members also acts a photocopy card. Cards may be charged in the University Library.
The Society's library holds specialist books on archaeology, architecture, history, geography and local studies and a wide selection of periodicals. Suggestions for purchase are considered by the Library Committee which acquires new books and pamphlets in accordance with our collecting policy. There is a suggestions book for the use of members.
You can search the Society's library catalogue through the university library catalogue.
